From Sydney we flew to Cairns where we picked up our RV although the first night we stayed at a YHA as we arrived at 6,00pm and this time here is as if was nearly midnight in Spain. At the YHA we met three Spaniards, a girl who was travelling alone around the world since October 2009 and she intends to come back in December 2010 and two young PE teachers who a part from improving their English they love travelling. It’s so interesting exchanging impressions with travellers. In Cairns we went to the farmers market and I was delighted with the large amount of tropical fruit and vegetables there and we also visited the Botanic garderns.Nearly each town has a botanic garden. The first days here we were still dealing with the jet lag but it’s better now. After Carins, we headed north to the Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation. Gorgeous, peaceful, just nature. Beautiful beaches where the rainforest meets the reef. This region is where two pristine World Heritage listed Wonders mmet, the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef. We’ve done some trails in different parts of the park –bushwalking as aussies say-. We haven’t been on the reef yet because of the weather –the sea is too rough and it’s not good for snorkelling- and the price here in the north, we’ll try southern near the Withsundays. Rainforests here are so green, with so many species of palm trees and plants and so many wild flowers although it’s winter time here. These aret he oldest continually sruviving tropical rainforests on earth!!.We’ve also seen lots of sugar cane , even there is a cane railway , and tea. We went on a tour and spotted some crocs and beautiful birds. We’ve seen a cassowary and a dead kangaroo on the road but none alive. Hope not to leave Australia without seeing one wild! We’ve spent the night in Mossman and now we are setting off Atherton Tablelands.
